OLA GORIE Vintage Sterling Sliver Zoomorphic Brooch dated 1988
£179.00
A lovely sterling silver brooch by renowned Scottish jewellery designer Ola Gorie.
The intricate zoomorphic design of this brooch is derived from wood carvings found at Urnes Stave Church, a UNESCO World Heritage site in Norway. The Urnes style is the last phase of Viking Age art, characterised by intertwined animals, sinuous lines, and deep symbolism.
There is a great deal of symbolism in the design of this brooch. The stag, often seen in Norse mythology, is associated with nature and renewal, while the serpent at its throat represents chaos or evil.
“Yggdrasil” The World Tree, is a cosmic tree in Norse mythology that connects the nine realms. The struggle between good and evil is a common theme in Viking and medieval Scandinavian art.
Ola Gorie’s designs often draw from ancient Celtic, Norse, and Pictish influences, and this particular brooch is no exception.
This is a pre-owned brooch. It has been cleaned and polished with care. It is in excellent condition.
