The story of George Bellamy is very interesting. Geoffrey Bellamy (1922-1997) was a celebrated bomber during WWII, he flew 112 missions and won the Distinguished Flying Cross and bar. After the war he attended the Birmingham College of Art before studying at the Royal College of Art under Robert Goodden. After his graduation he started a workshop in west London where, like many of his contemporaries, he was influenced by Scandinavian design and made mostly small designs for retailers such as George Tarratt.
He joined Ivan Tarratt to form the Bellamy & Tarratt production silver company before winning a Design Centre award in 1961 and joining the Council of Industrial Design in 1964 to encourage good design.
His love of teaching saw him return to education as Head of the Silversmithing department at Sheffield College of Art.
