Charm bracelets and how to fit a charm

Most charms arrive with a jump ring or split ring so you can attach them at home. Use small pliers to open a jump ring just enough to pass through the link, then close the gap so the ends meet. Split rings twist on like a tiny key ring and are very secure. If you prefer, ask our team about fitting a charm to your bracelet before dispatch.

Sizing and loop diameters

We list charm height and width so you can judge scale. Loop inner diameters are usually between 3 and 5 mm, which fits most curb and belcher bracelets and many fine chains. Thicker chains may need a larger bail or a split ring. European style threaded bracelets are different in construction and are not usually compatible with traditional vintage charms.

Hallmarks and maker’s marks

Hallmarks and maker’s marks are often found on the loop, jump ring or the reverse of the charm. Where present we photograph and note them in each listing so you can see the metal fineness and, in many cases, the assay office and date letter.

Care and storage

  • Wipe with a soft cloth after wear and keep away from lotions and sprays.
  • Store charms separately to avoid scratches and check loops every so often.
  • For gold charms with small stones, avoid ultrasonic cleaning.

Vintage charms: quick questions

Will this charm fit my bracelet
Check the loop inner diameter in the listing and compare it to your bracelet link size. Most curb and belcher bracelets work well.

Can you attach the charm for me
Yes. Ask our team and we will advise on fitting options such as split rings or soldered jump rings.

Are the charms hallmarked
Where present we photograph and note UK hallmarks or maker’s marks in the description.

Can I wear a charm as a pendant
Yes. Many customers wear a single charm on a fine chain. Check the loop size to ensure your chain will pass through.
